New blog

Hello, everyone! After some research, I decided the best way to do this would be to have a team blog, where all of you are authors and I'm the administrator. We'll discuss Monday more about writing requirements for the class, but I would love to hear if you have any suggestions. Feel free to post them or e-mail me.

  1. When you say suggestions you mean suggestions regarding what?

  2. As a suggestion, why dont we agree on that week's top current story or event and we all agree to post our perspective about the event.

  3. The basic requirement will be to write once a week, though of course you could write more or comment more.
What am seeking your ideas on is how you would decide what to write:
    1. We could choose a current event each week for everyone to comment on.
    2. You could choose a current event-like topic and write about it for the semester, kind of like choosing a reporting beat.
    3. I could select a topic, like "Write about the most important lesson you learned in kindergarten."
    4. We could even pick a topic based off the class lecture and we could use it as a way to better understand it.
Any of these ideas excite anyone?

  4. I like the idea of everyone choosing a topic for the semester and writing about it each week. That way everyone is aware ahead of time as to what they should be researching and writing about and we will spend less class time trying to decide what everyone should cover. Perhaps there could be 2 or 3 people covering the same subject so that we get different perspectives. For example a few people to cover American Politics, a few to write about Sports, and few to write about Fashion/Style, etc.

  5. I like the idea of you picking a topic like 'the most important lesson you learned...' sometimes people find it easier to write when they have limitations. Though I can only speak for myself, I tend to lean more toward the emotional end of things and when something is cut and dry for me, yet still something that is MY personal experience things tend to flow better. Perhaps if we picked a topic like American politics or something that we wrote about for the semester, things might be a bit more *blah* just due to the fact that everyone doesn't have an opinion about it, or feel strongly enough about it to be able to speak passionately, which is what journalism is.(to me anyway)

  6. I think writing about current events would be interesting, especially if it’s something controversial. For example, “Do you think Plaxico Burress should receive a two year jail sentence for carrying a loaded gun into a night club? “

I also support the idea of writing about something different each week versus writing about the same thing.

I would like to write about things that are challenging. I took this class to grow as a writer, and growth in anything requires pressure and challenge. Otherwise, you are just going through the motions.
